Nu Chapter of the Texas State Organization of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International met on Monday, October 16 at 5:30p.m., Wimberley, TX for a regularly scheduled meeting followed with socializing. Co-Presidents Tonda Frady & Linda Brown and Secretary Cheryl Blake were in attendance.
Members in Attendance: Loretta Eiben, Cheryl Blake, Tonda Frady, Debra Zupancic, Linda Brown, Brenda Butler, Beverly Still, Ginger Chiles , Pat Ricks, Sandra Morales, and Connie Martin.
President Frady introduced guest speaker, Hugh Campbell who spoke on “El Camino Real de los Tejas” trails.
President Frady called the meeting to order at 6:35 p.m.
Inspiration was shared by Ricks.
Reading of the minutes was dispensed by a motion from Martin and a 2nd by Brown due to minutes being posted online and in the newsletter. Motion passed.
Treasurer’s Report ~ Report presented by Martin. Current checking balance is $1811.99. $170 was collected to help offset money needed for special interest. Martin made a motion to accept report and it was 2nd by Brown, motion passed.
Correspondence: Brown reported that a get well card was sent to Dave Thompson, husband of Martin and Peggy Parker. Cards are also being sent to members who we have not seen in while letting them know that we miss them. Brown also received an email from Theta Kappa about the January tri-social, but clarification is needed on this as we are under the impression there would be no social in January.
Raffle Update ~ we have now collected $240 to help cover chapter obligations.
Special Project~ Wimberley Trail of Lights, we will be collecting hot chocolate packets with and without marshmallows. We will host on December 14th from 6-9, members were asked to sign up for work shifts.
Birthdays ~ each member will be receiving a card for their birthday and if in attendance close to their birthday they will receive a sweet treat.
Nu Christmas Party ~ December 4, 6-8 and Blake will host. Members may bring a gift for the Chinese gift exchange if they want to participate. Blake will notify members of what the main course will be so they can bring sides and desserts.
Prop 9 ~ Zupancic has sent notifications to the newspapers to publicize it. Still has been posting signs to encourage voters to vote for the proposition. Frady suggested that members stand outside of polling locations on Election Day.
Nomination Committee ~ a committee of four, Morales, Zupancic, Martin & Butler will create a slate of officers by the January newsletter.
T-shirts ~ Brown asked members if we want to get new member shirts. A brief discussion was held and it needs to be investigated more, but members would like shirts.

Treasurer’s Report ~ Report presented by Martin. Current checking balance is $1811.99. $170 was collected to help offset money needed for special interest. Martin made a motion to accept report and it was 2nd by Brown, motion passed.

Treasurer’s Report ~ Report prepared by Martin. Current checking balance is $1661.00 Report on file with the minutes. There was a question on check number 1001, is this for our membership numbers for the TSO scholarships? This item will need clarification.
Correspondence: Brown received a thank you from Special Hearts in the Arts for her contribution. Brown & Zupancic received a note to acknowledge a gift made in their names by Still to the DKG International Educators Foundation Projects Fund. Sandra Morales send a note saying she was doing well and hopes to attend the next meeting. Still shared a note for the DKG newsletter stating that the organization is in dire straits and support is needed.

Old Business:
State Convention: Report from Brown & Eiben. They attended as many sessions as possible. Our yearbook has been out of compliance and they learned what needed to be done to become compliant. Zupancic is doing an awesome job with the newsletter. There will be no state convention next summer, but several Tri-Area conventions that will be one day in length and closer to home in hopes more members can attend. They both came away with many new friendships.
New Business:
Membership: A new membership list was shared with members. There will also be a section in the newsletter to showcase at least one member a newsletter.
Program for 2023~2024: October program will be a presentation on El Camino Real de los Tejas National Historical Trail. The April program will be Essential Oils and the May meeting will be the Future of Texas Water.
Christmas Party: Will be held at Blake’s house and we will have a Chinese gift exchange with a pot luck meal in December.
Installation of Officers: May 25, Tri Chapter meeting and Seguin will host.
Projects for 2023~2024: Hays Caldwell Women’s Shelter, members will donate laundry shop and baby wipes for the October meeting. Wimberley Trail of Lights will be in December. The Chapter will apply for an ASTEF Grant for emerging readers at Rodriguez Elementary in San Marcos. Still suggested that we also consider Little Dresses for Africa and to participate in a fund raiser to raise funds for the Wimberley library. Ideas were shared for ways to be involved in area schools.
Publicity: members were asked to share news articles with local newspapers to get our name out there.
Committee Assignments: list was reviewed.
Raffles: It was decided we would not hold raffles but asked members to donate $15-$20 to cover the expenses of the Chapter’s obligations.
Birthdays: Each member will receive a birthday card and if they are in attendance at the meeting closest to their birthday they will receive a candy bar.

Awards: Winek and Blake were presented their DKG umbrellas for being the Founders Day winners. Nu Chapter received the Five Star Award for our newsletter, thank you Zupancic for an amazing job.

Committees: Committees were reviewed and members were encouraged to sign up for the next year.
Programs for 2023~2024: Members brainstormed and discussed possible programs for the next year. Executive committee will meet in the summer to plan out the year using the ideas.
Nu Chapter Birthday Celebration: Estepp shared a poem from the Founders to celebrate our birthday, members sang Happy Birthday and enjoyed cake.
Recommitment Ceremony: Each member present recommitted themselves to Nu Chapter as the triangle of red candles were lit and explanation of the society was shared.
Raffle basket: winner was Eiben
Meeting concluded with socializing and talking about summer plans.

Correspondence: Sally Baker left the group in 2005 but she let us know that she enjoys the newsletter. New Braunfels Chapter, Alpha Theta Awarded us the prize for most in attendance at the Tri Chapter social and they made a $25 donation in our honor to ASTEF.

A discussion was held to use $50 of today’s raffle to buy two gift cards to Amazon to be used at the State Convention. Brown also let the members know that the convention will be holding a “Back to the Future” silent auction and members were asked to make random donations towards this.
State Convention, June 14~17 in McAllen. Eiben gave us a brief overview.
May Meeting ~ It was decided the meal for the meeting would be pot luck and everyone in attendance bring a dish, but no desserts as this will be our birthday celebration. Members were encouraged to share past projects at the May meeting of ideas we would like to do for the next year of meetings.
Game Time: Founders Day quiz, winners were Winek and Blake
Raffle basket ~ $81 was collected and Jordan was the winner of the basket.
Induction of new members ~ Jordan and Chiles.
Meeting concluded with the singing of the Delta Kappa Gamma song.

Candidates for membership: Royal and Chiles were introduced to the group. Bios of the candidates will be in the next newsletter.
Projects in Schools: Zupancic shared with members about going into local schools and leaving treats for teachers and flyers to hopefully gain new members.
ASTEF Leadership: Frady made a motion that was seconded to donate $25 for ASTEF Leadership, motion carried.
Match the Founders: the April meeting will also be Founders Day with a contest to guess who the Founder is.
Installation of New Members: will be held at the April meeting at the San Marcos Library.
Past & Present: Members will be invited to the May meeting and a power point will be shared of events that Ne Chapter has been involved in over the years.
May Meeting: A poll will be conducted to decide if the May meeting will be held on a Sunday or a regular meeting day.
Game Time: Members were entertained with a candy bar game.
Raffle basket ~ $70 was collected and Eiben was the winner of the basket.

Candidates for membership: Royal and Chiles were introduced to the group. Bios of the candidates will be in the next newsletter.
Projects in Schools: Zupancic shared with members about going into local schools and leaving treats for teachers and flyers to hopefully gain new members.
ASTEF Leadership: Frady made a motion that was seconded to donate $25 for ASTEF Leadership, motion carried.
Match the Founders: the April meeting will also be Founders Day with a contest to guess who the Founder is.
Installation of New Members: will be held at the April meeting at the San Marcos Library.
Past & Present: Members will be invited to the May meeting and a power point will be shared of events that Ne Chapter has been involved in over the years.
May Meeting: A poll will be conducted to decide if the May meeting will be held on a Sunday or a regular meeting day.
Game Time: Members were entertained with a candy bar game.
Raffle basket ~ $70 was collected and Eiben was the winner of the basket.

Old Business:
Frady and Martin reported membership updates. Frady reported on the health problems of
members Parker and Odell; cards of support have been sent. Prospective members were
introduced and welcomed. Each gave a brief overview of her career.
New Business:
Brown discussed the new meeting dates established for the third Monday of each month with
the fall meetings being held in Wimberley and the spring meetings being held in San Marcos;
she also reported on the Area 7 meeting from August.
Eiben reviewed the events from DKG State Convention where she learned the importance of all
offices, but that the President and Treasurer are the most important of the organization. She
stated that each chapter is unique; don’t replicate what other chapters do… let us be us!
Brown and Frady initiated a year of “Getting to Know our Sisters in Nu Chapter.” The Ice-
Breaker game of bingo allowed the members present to discover facts about each other.
Members also completed Secret Sister Forms; Secret Sisters will be revealed at the February 20
meeting at a San Marcos restaurant to be named later.
Zupancic created, distributed, and explained the Nu Chapter DKG brochure usefulness as
members visit schools and begin to recruit. Brochures will be available at all meetings.
Brown requested that we bring cleaning supplies to the October meeting to be donated to the
Hays County Women’s Shelter. Even things like toilet paper would help the women living in the
new facility.
At the October meeting, Eiben will discuss ASTEF grant ideas; the guest speaker will be from
AMBA. [Texas Retired Teachers Association (TRTA), Association Member Benefits Advisors]; Frady will
conduct the sign-up for our December Service Project: The Wimberley Trail of Lights.
Raffle basket was donated by Finance Committee and ????? walked home with the prize.

Nu Chapter will host and provide the meal from Italian Garden and charge $15. Members have been asked to provide the desserts. The social will be held at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in San Marcos from 11-1. Door prizes will be provided along with table decorations. Members are asked to wear hats and gloves.

Raffle basket was donated by Communications and Kiesling walked home with the prize.
Nu Chapter’s 92nd birthday was honored by Estepp and Brown.

Purse project will change to items for Transitional Housing for women. Items in need are bed sheets, household items, Brown will try to obtain a list of items for us.

Treasurer’s Report was presented by March. Balance as of December 14, 2021 is $3686.03. Fifty-five doll ars were collected from tonight’s raffle that will be added to the balance.

Trail of Lights was successful December 8, 2021.
Locations are still being explored for our Tri-Chapter Social January 15, 2022. The menu, decorations, door prizes and invitations were established provided Covid-19 allows for the group to meet. Officer Cormier will be the guest speaker and the theme will be
“Superheroes.”
New Business:
Zupancic agreed to create the invita2on. Rhodes and Mar2n are exploring every possibility of an affordable locat t ion. Frady and Zupancic will begin making personal phone calls after the New Year requesting soups and salads, table decora2ons, and door prize dona2ons even if members cannot attend.

The service project for the Hays County Women’s Shelter was extended into January; the Tri-Chapter Social
invit ation will include an opportunity for our sisters from other chapters to donate as well.
A Raffle basket was donated by Rhodes. Money raised from this raffle will be used for scholarship.

Members enjoyed a gift exchange (value ($10-$15) and brought gently used purses filled with full size toiletry items for the Women’s Shelter.

Brenda Butler made the donation of $100 for the Food Bank on behalf of Nu Chapter.
Trail of Lights will be on Wednesday, December 8 from 5:30-9:00. Members need to donated cocoa and marshmallows for the evening and need to sign up to volunteer shifts.
Rhodes reported that the Presidents from our Tri Chapter social would like to alternate the meetings between January and May. On years that officers are not installed we have Tri Chapter Social in May and celebrate Founders day. January, 2022 Nu Chapter will host and then the May, 2023 would be hosted by New Braunfels. Members were in agreement.
Eiben gave a brief report on the 92nd Convention. She reported that the convention is an education event and hard to explain to those who have never attended. Lots of connections are made at conventions. This year’s attendance was small so not a lot of business was conducted but there were lots of great breakout sessions.
Next ASTEF weekender will be Tyler, TX, April 22-24, 2022.
Members discussed ideas for ASTEF grants. If we decide to proceed, the paperwork is due by April 1, 2022.
Next convention will be in Lubbock, June, 2022.

January’s program location has not been confirmed as of yet. Officer Corimer will be our speaker and the tentative date is January 15, 2022 but it may be moved.

November service project ~ Emily Anne Theatre serving hot chocolate on either December 7 or 8th. Needs to be confirmed.
December 14 ~ Christmas Social, meal will be potluck and social will be held TBA. Service project will be to fill a gently used purse filled with feminine products to be donated to the Hays County Women’s Shelter. The raffle will be sponsored by the scholarship committee and funds will be earmarked for State Scholarship. We will also have a Chinese gift exchange valued at $15.

April 19~ Topic: Founders Day with a scavenger hunt. Meeting will be held at President Rhodes’s residence with San Marcos ladies providing the meal. Silent auction will be on gently used jewelry and funds will be earmarked for Eula Mae Carter.
May 17th ~ Nu Chapter Birthday Party. Location will be at President Rhodes’ residence and meal will be a pot luck. Raffle basket created by members who volunteer and funds earmarked for our local scholarship.

Nu Chapter of the Texas State Organization of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International met on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at 6:00p.m., San Marcos, TX for a regularly scheduled meeting followed with socializing. President Tonya Rhodes and Secretary Cheryl Blake were in attendance. A quorum was not established due to COVID 19.
Members in Attendance: Loretta Eiben, Cheryl Blake, Tanya Rhodes, Connie Martin, Chris Winek, Rebecca Kroener, Tonda Frady, Robin Estepp, Debra Zupancic, Linda Brown, and Sandra Morales via Zoom.

Treasurer’s Report was presented by Martin. Balance as of April 2021 is $2566.03. A deposit of $158 was made from dues and raffle. Chapter donations were made to ASTEP, Scholarship, etc. by April 1 in the amount of $210. Dues of $83 per member are now due.
Old Business:
Rhodes reported that we have been unable to donate the collected food to the Food Bank but we are trying to schedule for April 29. There are lots of available opportunities to do volunteer work at the Food Bank.
Rhodes also reported that she sent out an email notification about the Denton Convention.
Rhodes also reminded members that we need to vote on the membership of Sandra Love. We will vote electronically.
New Business:
Prospective new members: Sandra Love, Ashley Love, Kasey Love, & Becky Parks. Bios will be submitted to the newsletter for members to review and then a vote will be held electronically.
Newsletter ~ Zupancic reminded members to send her information and that email is the best way but she will accept text messages. Newsletter needs to be out by May 1.
Carol Lowe, District Coordinator was not able to attend tonight’s meeting.
Rhodes reminded members to read their newsletter because at the next meeting door prizes with be awarded to those who know the information.

Eiben reported that in May Nu Chapter will be 91 years old. She read a report written by Evelyn Barrett with the consolation of Ruth Spear with information obtained from Ethel Reid. Nu’s past was shared with members of their first 50 years. Nu is chapter 13 of the original 17 chapters created by Dr. Annie Webb Blanton.

Eiben gave updates on the State Convention that will be held in Denton, TX on June 17-19, 2021. If interested in attending contact Eiben or Rhodes. Morales commented that registration is open but only few have registered. A decision will be made by May 15 if the convention will be held. Social protocols will be in place. International Convention will be held in San Antonio, TX on July 22-24, 2021 at the River Walk Marriot. Volunteers are needed and this is a great way to meet international teachers.
Scholarship ~ Blake reported that no one has submitted but due to the Pandemic it has been hard to advertise the scholarship.
Newsletter ~ Zupancic reported that she has received lots of news worthy information.
Carol Lowe, District Coordinator would like to attend our next meeting. Rhodes will make contact with her.

Election of Officers ~ due to COVID a meeting was not held for electing officers but elections were held through an online ballot. Officers elected for 2020-2022 will be Rhodes as president, Eiben as first vice, Kiesling as 2nd vice, Carol Plassman as corresponding secretary. Blake was elected as recording secretary whose term will not expire and Martin was appointed treasurer. Jan Moody was elected to be the Parliamentarian.
Possible new member is Sandra Love, a ballot will be sent via email.
Correspondence – Pat Mears sent a letter about Wanda Fricks and also donated Fricks Key pin which was then presented to Zupancic for all her service to Fricks and the Chapter.
New Business:
Officers were installed, Zupancic stepped in for Moody, and Morales stepped in for Plassman.
Birthdays were announced. Member updates on those not in attendance.

Nu Chapter of the Texas State Organization of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International met on Tuesday, September 22 2020 at 6:00p.m., San Marcos, TX for a regularly scheduled meeting followed with socializing. President Tonya Rhodes and Secretary Cheryl Blake were in attendance. A quorum was not established due to COVID 19.
Members in Attendance: Loretta Eiben, Cheryl Blake, Tanya Rhodes, Connie Martin, Chris Winek and Sandra Morales, Debra Zupancic and Lauren Kiesling via Zoom.
Inspiration was shared by Winek.
President Rhodes called the meeting to order at 6:00p.m.
Minutes were prepared and read by Blake, approved as read.
Treasurer’s Report was presented by Martin. Balance as of September 22 is $2238.03. Treasurer’s report was accepted as read.
Old Business:
Newsletter – updates presented by Zupancic
- Our newsletter has received the Five Star Award.
- Zupancic has learned that there are a variety of people she needs to share the newsletter with.
- Area 7 Workshop said a Facebook page should be created within certain guidelines, but at this point no is willing to take that task on.
- Items are needed for the newsletter, but Nu’s history will be shared in future newsletter blurbs.
- If anyone is in need of a hard copy, they must notify Zupancic
Election of Officers ~ due to COVID a meeting was not held for electing officers but elections were held through an online ballot. Officers elected for 2020-2022 will be Rhodes as president, Eiben as first vice, Kiesling as 2nd vice, Carol Plassman as corresponding secretary. Blake was elected as recording secretary whose term will not expire and Martin was appointed treasurer. Jan Moody was elected to be the Parliamentarian.
Possible new member is Sandra Love, a ballot will be sent via email.
Correspondence – Pat Mears sent a letter about Wanda Fricks and also donated Fricks Key pin which was then presented to Zupancic for all her service to Fricks and the Chapter.
New Business:
Officers were installed, Zupancic stepped in for Moody, and Morales stepped in for Plassman.
Birthdays were announced. Member updates on those not in attendance.
Raffle basket was donated by the Webmaster. Morales was the winner and we raised $40.

Next meeting will be October 20th at Rhodes residence.

Nu Chapter of the Texas State Organization of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International met on Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at 9:00a.m, San Marcos, TX for an executive board meeting of officers.

Meeting locations were discussed. At this time meetings will be held at Rhodes residence until further notice. Meetings will be conducted in person as the law allows and they will be conducted by Zoom.
Dates were established for the meetings. Meetings will be third Tuesday of the month unless otherwise stated.
Sept. 15 ~ Kicking off the New Year. Officers will be installed and new members will be inducted. Meal will be provided by officers. Chris Winek will give the inspiration. Raffle basket will be donated by the Webmaster and funds will be donated to Leadership.
October 20 ~ Theme will be “Getting to Know ASTEF.” Meal will be provided by Wimberley members. Lauren Kiesling will offer the inspiration. Raffle basket will be donated by the Yearbook Committee and funds will be used for ASTEF.
November meeting TBA, Wimberley Trail of lights host night. Members will need to donate hot chocolate and marshmallows for the event.
December 15 ~ Christmas Party. Dinner will be pot luck and we will host a white elephant gift exchange. Inspiration will be given by Alice Castillo. Raffle basket will be donated by the Scholarship committee and funds will be used for World Fellowship.
January 23, 2021 or back up date January 16 ~ Tri Chapter Social hosted by Nu Chapter. We have two possible topics, first choice, GSMYC, Rob Rodriguez or Hays County Caldwell Women’s Center, Marla Johnson. Meal will be catered, meeting location to be determined. Raffle basket will be Wine Basket will many goodies donated by the members. Money raised from the raffle will be donated to the speaker’s cause.
February 16, 2021 ~ Food Bank. Meal will be provided by San Marcos members (soups/salads). Inspiration will be given by Jenny Turney. Raffle basket will be donated by the Social Committee will funds be donated to Schools for Africa. Members will be asked to donate non-perishable food items to the food bank.
April 20, 2021 ~ Birthday Party “The Original 13”. Meal will be Pot Luck and a birthday cake will be provided. Inspiration will be given by Brenda Butler. Raffle basket will be donated by Legislative committee and funds will be used for the State Scholarship. We will also have a jewelry party and proceeds will be used for the Nu Chapter scholarship.
May 18, 2021 ~ Founders’ Day Celebration. Meal will be Pot Luck and the inspiration will be provided by Jan Moody. The raffle basket will be donated by the Membership committee and funds will be used for the Eula Lee Carter Memorial fund.
Yearbook is due November 1st.
August 29th will be the Area Meeting and it will be held by Zoom. Notify Rhodes if you can attend.

Meeting Program ~ Founder’s Day Ceremonies and Installation of new officers.
- President Morales called the meeting to order at 6:15p.m.
- Recording Secretary Blake submitted the minutes of April 17, 2018, accepted as posted online.
- Treasurer Frady reported a balance of $1,529.03. Frady made a motion that we give $600 towards convention expenses. Gartman seconded, members approved the motion.
- Scholarship: Blake announced this year’s recipient as Katelynn Ursy.
- Programs/Projects: Eiben has wrapped up the current ASTEP grant by submitting all forms and forms for the next grant have also been submitted.
- Communications: Gartman needs articles for the newsletter of what our teachers are doing.
- Ceremonies: Estepp announced that we will be celebrating our Founders and installing the new officers after the meeting.
- Amending the Chapter Rules ~ A motion was made by Nadyne Gartman and seconded by Gracie Rocha, at the April meeting, that a member’s signature on the membership application form constitutes, “Permission to use member’s image on Chapter media.” Motion carried.
- Conventions, Area Workshop ~ please consider attending.
- Cultural Exchange: Kochi, Japan has requested that schools in America interact with theirs. Rhodes volunteered her school, Miller Middle School. Morales submitted the application and they were accepted.
- Lone Star News: 1. Member Nelda Reyes is one of six national award recipients of the prestigious Winslow Coyne Reitnouer Excellence in Teaching Award. 2. Morales read a passage from LSN--A ceremony is a special moment that bridges the past with the present and inspires a bridge to the future.
- Name Change: Gartman informed members that DKG is looking to change its name. “Women Educator International – DKG.” A discussion was held and members were in agreement. They also would like to see that to initiate be changed to induct.
- Members were updated on the status of many members.
- Birthdays: May birthday winner was Gartman and June birthday winner was Rhodes.
- Raffle: Money to be used for Convention expenses, winner was Castillo.
- Farewell Address: President Morales thanked everyone for always be willing to step up to whatever challenge she gave them. She also encouraged members to continue their support of our new President Rhodes.
- Golden Rose: Members presented out-going President Morales with a golden rose pin guard.

- Treasurer Frady reported a balance of $1614.78. Frady also reported that an additional $25.00 would be added to the scholarship in memory of Franco’s husband.
- Corresponding Secretary Plassmann reported no correspondence.
- Programs/Projects: Eiben is finishing up this past year’s ASTEF grant. She has also submitted a $2500 grant request for Books for Beginning Readers at Mendez Elementary. She will continue to submit each year and asked members to share other schools with her for future grants.
- Scholarship: Blake reported that applications are due by May 1st. The winner will be announced at the next meeting. Scholarship raised $61.00 for this month’s raffle.
- Communications: Gartman shared our state awards, Early Bird Award & Exemplary Award for the chapter Yearbook.
- Ceremonies: Estepp announced that we will be celebrating our 88th birthday following the meeting.
- State Scholarship: Zupancic announced that $77.00 was collected on the Raffle basket that she created and was won by Johns at the February meeting.
- Reyes thanked everyone for helping out with the Dr. Seuss Birthday celebration at DeZavala to wrap up the ASTEF grant for the year. Many students received another book. She also explained that she was one of six winners for national honors from Learning Ally. She attributed this honor to all the work of DKG members and the ASTEP grant.
- State Convention: June 14-16, Waco, TX, Registration forms can be found online. Early bird registration is due by May 16th. Members were encouraged to attend.
- International Convention: July 16-20, Austin, TX, registration can be found online. Members are encouraged to attend day events if you do not want to stay the night. Members may be asked to be table hostess. Members were thanked for making the notecards.
- Area Workshop: September 15, Patsy Sommer Elementary, Round Rock. Registration forms must be submitted before June 1st to President Sandra Morales.
- Emily Ann Theater: Requesting volunteers for their Butterfly Festival, April 21st.
- Amendment to the Nu Chapter, Chapter Rules: Gartman made a motion that an amendment be added to the chapter Rules, under Amendments, that a member’s signature on the membership application form constitutes “Permission to use member’s image on Chapter media”. Motion seconded by Rocha. Members will vote on this at the next meeting. Eiben also stated that there would be a form for those who wanted to opt out of media coverage.
- Election: Hollis reported that all teachers need to get out and vote.
- The Big Picture: Rethinking Dyslexia: Reyes & Martin-Thompson invited all members to attend this conference on May 2nd at the Price Center.
- Members were updated on the status of many members.

Nu Chapter of the Texas State Organization of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International met on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at 6:30p.m. at 104 Sendero Arbolado, Wimberley, TX for fellowship followed by a regularly scheduled meeting. President Sandra Morales and Secretary Cheryl Blake attended. A quorum was established.
Members in Attendance: Sandra Morales, Carol Grimm, Tonda Frady, Susan Pulis, Loretta Eiben, Debra Zupancic, Robin Estepp, Cheryl Blake, LaVerne Rydell, Barbara Pevoto, Evelyn Barrett, Carol Plassmann, Karen Franco, Ruth E. Spear, Brenda Butler, Gracie Rocha, Nelda Reyes, Peggy Hilburn, Sharon East, Charlotte Evans, Connie Martin-Thompson & Delores Cruz. Guests: Alice Castillo and Candy Holberg.
President Morales welcomed and thanked everyone. An inspirational reading followed by Pulis. Everyone enjoyed a festive meal provided by members.

- President Morales called the meeting to order at 6:34p.m.
- Recording Secretary Blake submitted the April 8th minutes were accepted as posted online.
- Treasurer Frady reported a balance of $1,590.26. Chapter is financially sound. A motion was made by Pulis and seconded by Grimm to accept the treasurer’s report. Motion carried. A motion was made by Frady to add an additional $100 to convention expenses and seconded by Rocha, motion carried.
- Corresponding Secretary Plassman gave an update on Gartmann’s health issues and a card was signed by all members for her.
- Scholarship: Blake reported that Elizabeth Enciso, a Texas State student who will student teach in the fall, is our scholarship recipient. Scholarship Committee is also sponsoring the monthly raffle of a summer time basket.
- Membership: In the absence of Membership chair, Turney, Morales gave out perfect attendance awards and reported that we grew by one member after losing the many members in September. Morales also reported that there will be two new members joining us soon.
- Ceremonies: Estepp reported that we would be recognizing the Founders following the meeting.
- Achievement Awards: Barrett presented members with service certificates and honored Melinda Caudle who spends countless hours volunteering for our organization. One member was recognized for her upcoming retirement.
- Programs/Projects: Eiben has applied for an ASTEF Grant on the topic of putting books into the hands of students. This would help us continue with our previous grant. We will find out if it is awarded at the Convention in June. TSO presented us an Annie Award for the ASTEF presentation which tied in the funding of books for young readers. Many members were active in this endeavor.
- Convention: Members are encouraged to attend. Member Kathy Martinez-Prather will be a presenter at the Convention, refer to page 7 of Lone Star News.
- Initiates: No dues are due if initiated after April 1st.
- Raffles: Have enabled us to make donations to various state organizations and projects.
- Tri Social: Social will be held in January, 2018 and we will host. We will have a Chinese themed dinner. Martin-Thompson made a motion to charge $12 for the meal and Barrett seconded the motion, motion carried.
- Christmas Trail of Lights, Wimberely: We need ideas and we must use LED lights for our display. (Trail of Lights, Emily Ann Theater)
- Committees were asked to sign up for next year’s raffle baskets.
- Members were updated on the status of many members.
- Grimm warned members of bogus emails and scams that are coming from a DKG website.
- Birthdays were announced and those present chose to give their prize to Gartmann.
